Antonios Manalis, Project Engineer for Well Services at Weatherford, has been appointed the YP Senior Chair at ICoTA Europe.
Being part of the ICoTA Young Professionals is a great opportunity for learning and development, sharing technical knowledge and meeting new people. Whether it’s at committee level or as a member, you can join for free and in return, receive multiple benefits.
Antonios has been involved with ICoTA since 2018, participating in various events. In 2022, he joined the YP Committee and since then, has been actively involved, contributing many ideas to the Chapter.
We asked Antonios why he decided to be part of the YP Committee.
“My mentality and thinking is based on the belief that any non-profit organization relies on its individuals to survive, grow, and eventually give back valuable resources such as knowledge, networking opportunities, entertainment, and more. It requires contributions from everyone involved. As a young oil and gas professional, knowing that ICoTA is one of the largest organizations in our industry, I thought joining the YP section and being an active part of it would perfectly align with my beliefs.”
It’s an exciting time for ICoTA as the organisation celebrates 30 years in the industry. We asked Antonios what his aims are for the YP committee and what he would like to achieve in his time in position.
“As the ICoTA YP Chair for 2024/25, my goal is to expand the ICoTA Young Professionals section. Currently, we have over 80 young professionals registered, but I believe there are many more out there who could benefit from being part of our community. It's a great opportunity for everyone in our industry to join. There's no better place to meet all the relevant individuals in our field.
Additionally, I aim to create a plan that incorporates technical knowledge with entertaining and enjoyable activities. For instance, organizing a pub quiz featuring Well Intervention questions is just one example. I envision many other engaging activities and events as well.”

Biography
Having graduated with a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from the Technological Educational Institute of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in Greece, I completed a six-month internship with Energean as a member of the mechanical maintenance team in the oil and gas processing plant. Seeking further education and opportunities abroad, I moved to Aberdeen to pursue an MSc in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, graduating in 2019.
After graduation, I joined Add Energy on a temporary basis as an Assistant Engineer, where I managed data sets for creating databases that contributed to effective and cost-reduction management. In 2019, I joined Weatherford’s Graduate Program as a Field Engineer, primarily working offshore and focusing on well interventions. After a couple of years, I was promoted to Project Engineer for Well Services at Weatherford, where I manage the design and delivery of well intervention solutions for the UK sector.
Outside of work, I play amateur football and was previously a professional football referee. At the age of 23, I served for one year in the military, as it is mandatory in Greece, and was assigned the role of Special Guns Maintenance Engineer. Additionally, I volunteered as a firefighter in Greece, responding to numerous emergency situations.
