The ICoTA Europe Committee plays a vital role in driving the association toward meeting its aim of improving communication and promoting the value of well intervention solutions. We talked to new Committee Member Annabel about her involvement in ICoTA Europe, the challenges and opportunities in the well intervention industry and what she’d like to accomplish this year.
Why did you get involved with ICoTA Europe?
ICoTA Europe provides a valuable platform to share information about operational practices and innovative solutions in well intervention. It’s well supported by operators and relevant to our local intervention market so is beneficial to those operators and to the service providers. It’s an entirely voluntary organisation and relies on industry professionals donating their time.I thought it was time for me to do my little bit.
What has been your biggest highlight as a committee member?
Having joined earlier this year, it is too soon for highlights. Since getting involved, I have been impressed by the attendance and engagement at the regular committee meetings. There are real valuable discussions between companies including news and latest initiatives on Safety, Covid-19 and Diversity & Inclusion and I’ve really enjoyed these.
And what do you most look forward to in the ICoTA Calendar?
It’s always the technical conferences for me. The virtual format is not ideal but the intercontinental seminar really took advantage of it to bring in speakers from around the globe. I hope to see that return next year.
What challenges and opportunities do you see in the well intervention industry at the moment?
Perhaps more than any other oil & gas discipline, intervention is a team effort. Success is built on in-depth planning and an effective departure from those plans when the unexpected occurs. Traditionally these teams have worked closely together and in-person. We have all learned to work and collaborate more effectively from home and we have the opportunity to use these new skills to remove the barriers common between offshore and onshore, operator and service provider to establish more effective teams.
Finally, if you could accomplish one thing as part of the ICoTA Europe Committee this year, what would it be?
I think it is the role of any new committee member to bring a fresh perspective, challenge the norms and really contribute. I’m passionate about innovation and talk to operators from around the world about their intervention challenges. I’d like to increase engagement with other ICoTA chapters to bring new experiences and relevant discussions into our activities.
